SUMMARY:WORKING WITH ADULTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES – A SYSTEMIC APPROACH (2025)
DESCRIPTION:DATES: 12, 13, 26 & 27 June 2025\nTIMES: 9:30 – 16:30\nVENUE: ZOOM\nThis four-day course is for people who are working (or have a background) in adult learning disabilities (LD) services. The course is suitable for a wide range of professionals from those who have no systemic experience to those who work systemically in their practice. The focus of the course is how to apply systemic concepts in practice. Areas which will be covered include how do we begin, how to welcome people and engaging people with LD, systemic listening and reflective processes, interviewing and questions to ask (intentions and effects) and how to end.\n \nThe mornings will begin with the facilitators setting forth theory, followed by small group discussion of an article which will be sent out in advance of the meeting. To finish the mornings, there will be process conversations and exercises in pairs and as a group to practise systemic concepts. The afternoon is primarily intended to provide an opportunity for participants to grow confidence in systemic working through first hand practice in a safe, confidential setting. This will enable exploration of clinical examples which participants will be invited to bring from their work context to the sessions. Facilitation will take place in a range of ways e.g. interviewing using a consultation model and reflecting teams.\n \nLearning outcomes include:\n\nGaining knowledge (or refreshing knowledge) of how to apply systemic principles when working with people with learning disabilities, their families and networks.\nPractising the approach, methods and techniques in a safe setting.\nSharing knowledge and ethics of practice.\nEnabling participants to take back skills learnt on the course to the work context.\n\n
