Suhaib Debar is now a junior doctor within the NHS. His family are Kurdish refugees from Iraq, and had suffered severe trauma. For many years he acted as principal young carer for his mother who suffered from mental illness, and for his younger sister and two younger brothers. His family engaged in the Kidstime workshops over a prolonged period. He used his knowledge to help other children and young people, which affected his decision to study medicine. He participated in the online film ‘When a Parent has a Mental Illness…’. He has used the understandings he gained to inform his own clinical practice and development.
